If you want to be well prepared to face the challenges of a highly competitive job market, study English Philology – practical profile of the undergraduate studies in English. Poznan University in cooperation with local companies and business organisations have created an innovative programme that allows the undergraduates to link their academic growth with practical application of knowledge and skills in business settings. Students learn how to function in an international manufacturing company by developing their skills in analysis, planning, management, economics, or IT. They learn to use English in speech and writing at C1 level of CEFR for languages. The programme comprises several business subjects, such as project managemenet, change management, international commerce and trade law, business negotiations, or business relationships, to name a few.

 BA studies finish with a BA defense and a BA degree.

Being a student of English Philology, you choose one of the following specialities. Each semester you have at least one speciality course belonging strictly to your field of interest. Apart from that, all students learn practical English at C1 level,  linguistics, British, Irish and American literature, history and culture.

English and Cultural Studies

Apart from general English subjects meant to develop the students’ practical language skills, most semesters consist of a course in linguistics starting with Introduction to Linguistics, through Phonology, Morphology, Syntax and Semantics, and Pragmatics – a course in literature and at least one speciality subject. Additionally, the students are taught about learning strategies, history of the USA and Great Britain, as well as  they exercise their debating and public speaking skills. The last two semesters of the programme are largely comprised of the undergraduate seminar courses whose purpose is to lead you through the process of writing your bachelor’s thesis.

As a result of the three-year-long study of English Philology , apart from earning a  Bachelor of Arts  degree, you will become a highly trained professional communicator. As English is the language of instruction, high levels of proficiency in English are expected to be achieved. A variety of practice-oriented courses fosters such skills as adaptability, creativity, criticality and collaboration in group settings. Depending on the specialty and courses of your choice, you can become suited to perform various jobs in different fields.
